Giants Women vs St Helens (FRIENDLY) | Match Preview

Huddersfield Giants Women will entertain St Helens in their final pre-season friendly this Sunday at Laund Hill (12pm).

Matty Smith's Saints will travel to West Yorkshire to take part in their first and only pre-season friendly.

Previous fixtures

On their Women's Super League debut in 2021, Giants Women first played St Helens.

Since, they've never been able to beat the Lancastrians.

Their last clash in August 2023 saw a landslide 68-0 victory for the Saints at Laund Hill, with a similar result in the reverse fixture earlier on in the year.

Giants Women guide

The Giants have just come off a hard-fought duel with Barrow Raiders at Laund Hill in their first pre-season friendly of the season, coming out the better side of the 30-8 scoreline.

Ana Da Silva picked up a try in her first outing as a centre, which she discussed earlier in the week in a great interview on the site.

Lois Naidole's 70-metre dash down the right edge, Paige Webster's crash over the line, Bethan Oates' breach of defence and Chloe Fairbank's opportunistic eye all added 4 points apiece.

Frankie Townend made 5 out of 5 successful conversion attempts in an impressive kicking display.

Coming into this friendly, Lori Halloran has added 4 more players from the Barrow squad in the shape of England winger Amelia Brown, Grace Ramsden, Em Johnstone and Emma Wilkinson.

Opposition guide

St Helens enjoyed a Women's Challenge Cup-winning Wembley debut, though failed to progress further than the Women's Super League semi-finals with a golden-point try from Leeds' Sophie Robinson ending their season.

Saints have been on the recruitment drive following the departures of ex-Giant Shona Hoyle and Eboni Partington, snapping up Warrington's Emily Baggaley and Wigan's Beri Salihi.

Off-field movement has taken place within their ranks as captain Jodie Cunningham was named Head of Women's Pathways and Performance

Former Giants Erin Stott and Grace Arrowsmith are set to return as part of Matty Smith's 25-player squad, which can be viewed here.

Entry details

Laund Hill will be operating a pay-on-the-gate system with both cash and card payments available. Adults can gain entry to the game for just £5 and Under 16s £1. Seating is unreserved. Squad sheets will be available for free on entrance.
